Heavy horses are admired all over the world for their strength, versatility, intelligence, docility and great capacity for work. At any show they deserve pride of place and will always appeal to the crowds. They were once the power on the farm and nearly died out when farms began to mechanise after the war. Fortunately, there were those who knew the value of the heavy horse and were determined to see the breeds continue. Thank heavens for these men and women, for it is thanks to them that you can see such splendid animals in our ring today. The Heavy Horse Turnout takes place in the Main Ring on Monday at 3:45pm, followed by the Parade of Heavy Horses. You can also see Heavy Horse classes on Monday in Rings 3 and 5.
