Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain Working Hunter of the Year Championship

CLASS RULES, REGULATIONS & QUALIFIERS
These classes are affiliated to the British Show Horse Association. Classes E139- E140 will be run in accordance with the general rules as set out in the Horse of the Year Show rulebook, a copy of which can be downloaded from www.hoys.co.uk.

Horses must be registered with the BSHA, Sport Horse Breeding (GB) or The Showing Register and all riders, owners and producers must be Members of the British Show Horse Association, Sport Horse Breeding (GB) or The Showing Register. Riders must be 15 years of age or older. Registration numbers must be quoted on entry form. This competition is for Working Hunters, mares, geldings or stallion (competing stallions must have a red, white and blue ribbon displayed in their tail) four years old or over, exceeding 148cm, to be ridden.  Any horse which has qualified as a Grade A Show Jumper or Advanced Event Horse as at 1st January in the current year is not eligible to compete in Working Hunter classes.

Both classes will be jumped over the same course and height. When judging the Championship judges will use the marks they have already allocated as a guide. Marks must be awarded in the following way: PHASE 1 (60 MARKS) A: Jumping Points 40 Marks; B: Style while jumping 20 Marks; PHASE 2 (40 MARKS) C: Conformation 20 Marks; D: Ride 20 Marks. In the event of equality the conformation mark from phase 2 will take precedence, followed by the ride mark and then the style mark. fences will not exceed 1.14m (3ft 9 ins) in height, there should be a minimum of 8 fences and a maximum of 12 fences. The course must contain a combination and should contain a water tray. This class will be judged in two parts: part one (jumping) will be judged first, without a jump off. All clear rounds and any other horses the judges may require will go forward to the next part. A rider can ride up to two horses in the jumping phase but then must select one horse to take forward into the ride and conformation section if so required (no change of rider is allowed).

Horse of the Year Show – Sports Horse Breeding of Great Britain Working Hunter of the Year
Classes E139- E140 are Horse of the Year Show Qualifiers, all data given upon entry of this class is provided to Grandstand Media Ltd. and stored on the Grandstand Entries System. For full policy details please visit www.grandstandentries.com. These classes are qualifying classes for the Horse of the Year Show, NEC, Birmingham 9th - 13th October 2024. Qualification will not pass below third place. The highest placed unqualified horse within the top 3 of the Championship will qualify for the Horse of the Year Show. The Championship is only open to the first and second prize winners in classes E139 & E140 respectively. The four horses forward in the Working Hunter Championship must all be placed as any one of the top three could be eligible for HOYS qualification. Qualification will be verified by the Horse of the Year Show office.

Exhibitors are required by DEFRA to carry with them Official Identity Documents for all horses/ponies when competing or travelling. Competitors are reminded that it is a DEFRA requirement that the Official Identity Documents must be in the name of the legal owner within 30 days of ownership. This must be registered with the breed society, relevant studbook or ID issuing agency, dependant on breed/type of animal. Spot checks may be carried out at qualifying shows and by breed societies.

The Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) £2000 Ridden Challenge 2025 Qualifier
This show is a qualifier for the Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) £2,000 Ridden Challenge. The highest placed horse (not already qualified) from classes E139 - E140 that is registered or eligible for registration on the Irish Draught or Irish Draught Sport Horse Register, with a minimum of 25% proven Irish Draught breeding, will qualify for the final of the IDHS (GB) £2,000 Challenge. Horses need not be registered with the Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) to qualify but must be on the IDHS (GB) Registers by the time of the Championship, which will be held at the IDHS (GB) National Championship Show in 2025 (date and venue to be confirmed).
In the final, the Champion will be awarded £1,000 prize money and a trophy. The Reserve Champion will be awarded £500, and 3rd to 7th inclusive will be awarded £100 each. In addition the highest placed Purebred Irish Draught will receive a trophy and £100, and the highest placed Sport Horse will receive a trophy and £50. A horse may only qualify for the final once, regardless of the type or number of classes won, placed in or entered. Qualifiers will be contacted by a member of the IDHS Show Team. Qualifiers are required to complete an online form at www.idhsgb.org.uk to inform the IDHS (GB) that they have qualified for the final.

Supreme Ridden Horse Championship
The Champion and Reserve Champion Working Hunter will go forward to the Supreme Ridden Horse Championship, to be held on Monday afternoon in the Main Ring. 

Failure to jump in the correct section will result in elimination.

1st and 2nd placed prize winners from classes E139 & E140 will be eligible for this championship. Jumping marks will be taken into consideration in this Championship.
